This low-mintage cent is scarce in all circulated grades, while Mint State examples are particularly elusive. Most such coins are reasonably well struck, the example illustrated being fairly representative. A few are exceptionally sharp, mimicking the appearance of proofs. Coins having full red color that is original and not the result of a chemical dipping are very rare. It is essential to purchase MS RD coins that have been certified by a major grading service, as so many unworn examples have non-original color.
