Most 1901 proof nickels were well made, with sharp strikes and at least some contrast between fields and devices. In most instances this is not sufficient for a Cameo designation, and such pieces are rare. The sales of proofs during the first decade of the 20th Century were generally poor as compared to the preceding 20 years, though the new cent in 1909 prompted renewed interest. This date is moderately scarce, though not truly rare. The new reverse hub which debuted in 1901 appears to have been used for all proofs of this date. Collector interest in these very minor differences has been too low to elicit much study of their relative rarities.続きを読む
