硬幣介紹

Debuting on the silver dollar in 1795, this charming bust of Liberty was adapted for the cent midway through 1796. In that year it was paired with three different reverse styles, known respectively as the Reverse of 94, the Reverse of 95 or the Reverse of 97 for the years in which they were the norm. It was around this time that the U. S. Mint began ordering copper planchets of high quality from Matthew Boulton in England, and the resulting coins were likewise of finer manufacture. Among the Mint State survivors on these planchets are the 1796-97 cents from the so-called Nichols Find, a hoard which surfaced around 1863 and was named for the coins' owner at the time. From this source has come the majority of pieces found in high grade type sets. Coinage of 1796-dated Draped Bust Cents resulted lasted well into 1797 and resulted in some 34 die marriages. S-110 appears to be the most common variety, while S-119 (photos) is just slightly scarce in overall numbers. The rarest varieties are NC-2, -5, -6 and -7. This last variety is lacking stems on the wreath, a die which was used for some 1797 cents, too.閱讀更多
