硬幣介紹

The mintage of all fractional silver coins plummeted at Carson City during 1878. Many writers have claimed that this was caused by the demand that millions of silver dollars be coined monthly under the Bland-Allison Act of 1878, but this was not the case. There was simply little or no additional need for fractional silver in 1878 and for the next several years, as pieces that had gone into hiding years earlier returned to circulation in the mid 1870s. It was just a fortunate coincidence for the U. S. Mint that the demand for fractional silver evaporated at the same time as its resources were taxed to the breaking point in coining unwanted silver dollars. The 1878 CC dime is scarce across all grades and rare in Mint State. A single die pair is known having the Type 1 Reverse, while a second obverse die was paired with three different Type 2 Reverses. Though the Type 1 variety is clearly more rare, the overall scarcity of this date limits the premium that will attach to such coins. One popular variety is F-104, which has a shattered reverse die.閱讀更多
