Despite a generous mintage the 1840 O dime is slightly scarce across most grades, and Mint State survivors are genuinely rare. Weakness of strike is a common problem with many examples. Three different sizes of mintmark were used for this issue, the most common being the Small Round O introduced this year. The Medium O and Large O were holdovers from 1839 and are about equally seen.
