Extremely large mintages of Morgan dollars more than accounted for the demand for dollar coins in 1879. Due to this large mintage, far fewer gold dollars were struck that year. The Philadelphia only struck a total of 3,030 pieces, with 3,000 mint states and a mere 30 proofs issued. The mint state issue pieces were saved in large numbers, however, which has made them relatively common even at the gem level. Proofs are extremely rare in all grades, however.閱讀更多
