硬幣介紹
New Orleans was the primary point of entry for silver bullion, most of which was then being mined in Mexico and South America. This accounts for the greater mintage of quarter dollars at this city's mint than at Philadelphia. Not until 1849 did America have its own domestic supply of silver, this coming as a byproduct of the rich gold discoveries in California. After that time, mintages evened out, and Philadelphia ultimately produced more coins during the 1850s. The 1844-O quarter dollar is common in the lower circulated grades, becoming scarce in XF, AU and Mint State. Gems are exceedingly rare. Four obverse dies were paired nine reverses, some of these held over from 1843, to produce this large coinage.閱讀更多
