Though the mintage of this issue was fairly substantial, survivors are scarce. The great gold discovery in California drove down the value of this metal in relation to silver, making America's silver coins worth more than face value. This led to exportation to Britain and Europe, and there they were melted as just so much bullion. Due to this lack of circulation at the time, Mint State examples are disproportionately available and are likely to be found in higher grades than for earlier dates.閱讀更多
