硬幣介紹
This was the final emission of quarter dollars from the San Francisco Mint for the next ten years. The number of quarters in circulation was greater than needed in 1878, and this remained true generally until 1891. It's possible that some of this issue was withheld from release and melted as redundant under such circumstances, and this is certainly possible given how rare are survivors. Just a single pair of dies was utilized for this small mintage, and the reverse features the Medium S of 1875-77. This die was severely overpolished, leaving a shallowness to several design features. The feathers of the eagle's right (viewer's left) leg were partially obliterated as a result. This reduction of depth is especially noticeable on heavily worn coins. 1878-S quarters are very scarce to rare in all grades, and Mint State coins are extremely rare.閱讀更多
