硬幣介紹

Quarter dollar production plunged at the San Francisco Mint in 1927 to only one-seventh the number of pieces struck there the year before. The reason for this is unknown, as the economy was very robust at the time. Though certainly a scarce coin across all grades, the rarity of this issue in lower grades has been overestimated on the basis of its mintage alone. The recessed date permitted the hoarding of examples from circulation as late as 1960, and 1927-S quarters are rare only in grades XF and higher. Mint State survivors are indeed rare, and nearly all such coins are poorly struck in one or more features. The overall poor quality typical of San Francisco Mint coins during this period has contributed to the extreme rarity of certified Full Head specimens. This is the single most difficult regular entry in the Standing Liberty series to find with Full Head, only the 1918/7-S overdate being more rare as MS FH. Collectors are cautioned against 1927(P) quarters having added mintmarks. This has been done to many coins across many grades, a particularly egregious example being a gem MS example that fooled many experts some years ago until the deception was finally revealed under high magnification.閱讀更多
