硬幣介紹

While nearly two million Type 1 quarters were coined at the San Francisco Mint, the vast majority of survivors are now dateless. The remain identifiable as 1917-S pieces solely by their unique status as the only date produced of this short-lived subtype. This would be a rare issue in any grade, were it not for the fact that a fair number were preserved by both collectors and the general public for their novelty as a new coin design. 1917-S Type 1 quarters are more scarce in Mint State that either of their cousins from Philadelphia and Denver, and this is especially true of Full Head (FH) examples. Like most S-Mint coins struck that year, the quarter is often found a bit softly struck on all high points, including the shield rivets, the date and, of course, Liberty's head. Two different styles of S mintmark are seen on some denominations of 1917-S coinage, but it appears that all quarters of this date bear the new style adopted that year and used almost exclusively through 1940. With the mintmark being placed on the dated, obverse die for Standing Liberty Quarters, it's not surprising that the old mintmark is not seen on this denomination.閱讀更多
