It comes as no surprise that proof sales dropped out drastically from those of 1892, which was the first year of issue. The number sold this year is in line with the population of collectors who purchased silver proofs annually at the time. Proofs of average quality are common within the framework of this series, and gems survive in sufficient number to satisfy advanced collectors.
