Typical of Franklin Halves from the 1960s, gems grading higher than MS-65 are elusive and highly sought. The 1961-D issue is a bit better struck on average than its Philadelphia cousin, so a fair number of certified FBL coins are available to advanced collectors. Mintages of all United States coins accelerated rapidly in the early 1960s, due to a notable increase in prosperity combined with a nascent coin shortage that was not yet known to the general public. Though the 1961-D production of half dollars did not set any records, it would nearly double the following year. A nice repunched mintmark variety is known, as well as an extremely minor doubled-die reverse.閱讀更多
