First struck in 1986, Gold Eagles are one of the world's most popular ways to buy gold. The coins are available in 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz sizes, with face values of $5, $10, $25, and $50, respectively. In 1986, mint state gold eagles were struck in all four sizes, but only $50 gold eagles were struck in proof. They proved extremely popular, as evidenced by the mintage of 446,290 coins.
