First struck in 1986, the Gold Eagle coin program is one of the world's most popular gold coin programs. The coins are available in 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz sizes, with face values of $5, $10, $25, and $50, respectively. The financial crisis led to a huge increase in demand for physical gold. In fact, demand increased by 57% for the $10 bullion gold eagle. Even with the huge demand, the Mint stayed steady with quality. Over 67% of 2009 gold eagles submitted received the grade of MS70.
