Braided Hair Cent

The Braided Hair Cent was produced from 1839 to 1857. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, it features a portrait of Liberty with braided hair on the obverse, and a wreath on the reverse. The Braided Hair Cent replaced the previous “Classic Head” design and is known for its larger, more intricate detail, reflecting the changes in American numismatic artistry.
