Introduction of Coins
As its very low mintage indicates, this is a scarce issue across all grades. Problem-free circulated pieces are in continual demand, with few found having the heavy wear often seen on the more common 1846-47 dollars. Mint State coins are few and largely limited to the lower grades. One superb gem is known, but this is an oddity, and even choice pieces are quite rare. Not surprisingly, just a single die pair produced this small mintage. With little chance of the dies becoming worn, most MS coins have varying degrees of prooflike fields, though evidently not enough to be certified as such.Read More
