Introduction of Coins
The 1850-D is the third scarcest Dahlonega half eagle in high grades, trailing only the 1842-D Large Date and the 1861-D. It is an extremely rare issue in AU55 and finer, although many non-specialists do not give it much regard. There are just a dozen or so pieces known in AU, as well as a small number of Uncirculated coins.
