Introduction of Coins
The 1855-C was lumped together with the 1854-C and 1856-C for many years but it is definitely a more common issue. An estimated 200 or so pieces are known with more than half of these in the VF-XF range. Three dozen or so properly graded AU coins are also known and this issue becomes scarce in AU55 to AU58. In Uncirculated, the 1855-C is very rare with only six or seven pieces presently accounted for.
