Introduction of Coins
The 1848-D half eagle is a scarce and underrated issue. It is most often seen in VF and XF grades and an accurately graded AU 50 is very scarce. There are approximately 20 or so pieces known in AU, with nearly all of these at the low end of this range. Choice AU 1848-D half eagles are quite rare, especially if they are well struck and on a choice planchet. In Mint State, this is one of the rarer half eagles from this mint.
