Introduction of Coins
The Philadelphia Mint struck over 2.5 million business strike $5 gold half eagles in 1882. This large mintage has made them pretty common today. They are available up through MS64. In gem, it is slightly less common but still obtainable. On the other hand, only 48 proof examples were struck and it is believed less than half of those still exist today. Examples are extremely rare today and command a large premium.Read More
