In 1952 the coin hobby began a period of rapid and sustained growth that lasted through 1964. This is reflected in the sharp percentage increase in proof set sales over 1951, though the resulting figure is still quite small as compared to current proof mintages. Gems of this issue are available through PF 68, with even a few PF 69 examples certified. The percentage of these that qualify as Cameo is skewed, as such coins are far more likely to be submitted for grading than non-Cameo pieces.
