Introduction of Coins
Proof set sales for 1963 remained at the 3+ million mark established in 1961 and lasting through 1964. It seems that the Philadelphia Mint made improvements in the durability of its dies in 1963, as the percentage of both Cameo and Ultra Cameo proof dimes is noticeably higher than for previous years. Like 1960, this date is rich in doubled-die varieties, particularly those affecting the reverse. These include some of the most dramatic doubling of the Roosevelt series and are very popular with both variety specialists and enthusiasts of proof coins in general.Read More
