Introduction of Coins
Mint State 1924-D dimes typically reveal strong centers and some weakness at their peripheries. This has resulted in a higher percentage of Full Band coins than one would normally expect. The coin illustrated is a good example of this phenomenon, and it also displays areas of brilliance to the left and right of Liberty where the obverse die was heavily polished to remove clashing impressions. The Denver Mint had not coined dimes since 1921, and it got off to a slow start this year. A mere 400,000 1924-D dimes had been struck by the end of the Mint's fiscal year on June 30, the balance of production coming during the second half of 1924.Read More
