Introduction of Coins
While not truly rare, 1939-S is one of the keys to completing the "long, short set" of 1934-45 Mercury Dimes. Mint State examples seem to have survived in smaller quantity than other issues of the period. On top of that, very few of those seen have Full Bands. On the plus side, 1939-S dimes, like most S-Mint dimes of the late 1930s through 1945, are sometimes found prooflike to varying degrees. The coin illustrated reveals this quality nicely.Read More
