Introduction of Coins
The greater than usual mintage of dimes during 1900 led the San Francisco Mint to cut way back in 1901, resulting in the fourth lowest total for the Barber Dime series. This issue is scarce across all grades and highly sought. Its rarity is perhaps overestimated a bit, due to its association with the very rare quarter dollar. Mint State coins are elusive, though typically quite well struck and, in some instances, prooflike. With such a small mintage, it comes as little surprise that no varieties have surfaced. All 1901-S dimes were coined with reverse dies taken from the old hub on which the lower right ribbon is slender.Read More
