Introduction of Coins
Mint State examples of the 1902-O dime are scarce and typically a bit softly struck at the highest points of the design. The coin illustrated is thus a rare exception. Circulated examples are elusive in grades above Very Good. By the time that inexpensive coin boards were available for collecting this series in the mid-1930s, the coins in circulation were quite heavily worn. Kevin Flynn's book on Barber Dimes lists both repunched and misplaced date varieties for this issue, but they are quite minor and of little general interest. A bit more promising is the repunched mintmark variety, which is clear enough to intrigue collectors.Read More
