This issue enjoyed the second highest sales after 1892, and the reason for this is unknown. More than a million currency pieces were struck, so it would not have been hard for a collector to obtain this date at face value. While quite well made overall and rather common as proof Barber Dimes go, this date is extremely rare or even non-existent with Ultra Cameo contrast.
