Introduction of Coins
The Financial Panic of 1893 and resulting hard times severely reduced the need for additional coins, and the New Orleans Mint struck fewer than half as many dimes in 1894 as it had the previous year. This issue is scarce in all grades and genuinely rare in Mint State. Gems are all but unknown, and this is a key date in the Barber series. Due perhaps to the low mintage, most examples were well struck and show few signs of die erosion.Read More
