The availability of circulated examples is affected by the many coins shipped to The Philippines following the Spanish-American War. Most of these have been repatriated and are seen today as XF or AU coins that are sometimes darkly toned or improperly cleaned. Problem-free examples of this issue are scarce in all grades. Mint State survivors are quite scarce, gems being truly rare. These coins typically are well struck and may be somewhat prooflike in their fields.
