Introduction of Coins
The low mintage of this issue reflects a weakened U. S. economy, and it has made 1915-S moderately scarce across all grades. Though the coin board fillers of the 1930s saved as many as they could find, the pool of available examples had nearly dried up by then. Mint State examples are scarce, with gems being quite rare. On the plus side, the typical survivor was coined with a sharp strike and excellent luster. Only mishandling by several generations of collectors has reduced the number of eye-appealing pieces. A nice repunched mintmark variety is known for 1915-S dimes. As with all scarce dates, however, the premium this variety will bring is small in proportion to the base price.Read More
