ONE DIME
Introduction of Coins
Walter Breen reported that the 460 proof dimes of 1863 were struck in three press runs between March 5 and May 26. Dime specialist Gerry Fortin records a single die pair for all of these. As is so often the case with Legend Obverse dimes, there is partial doubling of the denomination ONE DIME. The certified populations of both Cameo and Ultra Cameo examples are a little higher than this issue's rarity would suggest. This is likely a result of the fact that currency strikes are quite rare, putting more price and grading pressure on the more abundant proofs.Read More
