Well worn examples are particularly elusive, and many of those offered in the past have proved to be 1866 S dimes with weakly struck mintmarks or proofs that escaped into circulation. Authentication is mandatory for this date. Mint State examples, when found, tend to be better struck than preceding dates of the Legend Obverse subtype. They are also typically a bit prooflike.
