Introduction of Coins
While a mintage of 650 proof dimes for 1909 is still small in absolute terms, it represented a noteworthy advance over 1907-08 sales. Eagerness to acquire the new Lincoln Cent is the likely reason for an uptick in proof sales. Were it not for the fact that the cent and nickel could be purchased separately, the number of proof dimes would have been much higher. This date remains among the most plentiful of proof Barber Dimes, and gems are available in sufficient numbers to satisfy the demand from advanced collectors. Most 1909 proof dimes are fully brilliant, though some reveal light contrast on obverse and somewhat more distinct contrast on reverse.Read More
