The mintage listed for this issue is a little high for the single die pair identified, and 1868 S dimes are also more scarce across all grades than one would expect. Walter Breen's listing of a second reverse with doubling has proved to be merely strike doubling. These facts tend to bring the 260,000 mintage figure into question.
