ONE DIME
Introduction of Coins
After the bumper crop of proofs coined in 1876, sales fell to just 490 proof sets this year. All 1877 proof dimes were coined with a single die pair, and the reverse die was taken from the new hub. This Type 2 reverse shows the word DIME more properly centered left-to-right so that it is clear of the wreath. The quality of 1877 proof dimes, both as made and as they now survive, is relatively low. Gems are very scarce, and Ultra Cameo pieces are extremely rare.Read More
