ONE DIME
Introduction of Coins
The 1877 S dime is a high mintage issue that is nonetheless rather scarce in higher circulated grades and in Mint State. Gems are particularly elusive. All 1877 S dimes feature the Type 2 Reverse, though specialists are ever on the lookout for a discovery specimen having the old reverse with a forked left ribbon. Two different S mintmarks are known for this issue, but these are similar enough that little interest has been shown in collecting them. The most desirable variety is F-101 having numerals 18 repunched.Read More
