Though 1881 was another proof-only year for the popular trade dollar, sales of the silver proof set declined a bit to just 975 this year. Three obverses and three reverses were employed to coin proof dimes. no varieties of interest are noted for this date, though letters S[TATES] and O[F] reveal varying degrees of incompletion due to chipping of the obverse hub.
