Introduction of Coins
Two die pairs were shipped to Carson City for 1872 dime coinage, but just one pair was used. This issue is rare across all grades, but extraordinarily so grading XF or higher. Mint State pieces are all but unknown. Like all CC dimes 1871-74, this date features a single reverse die. It was during 1872's production that a crack formed running almost horizontally through the centers of the letters C. This date is found both with and without the crack.Read More
