Introduction of Coins
With nearly three million pieces coined, the Philadelphia Mint dime of 1874 is fairly common across the circulated grades. Mint State examples, however, are more scarce than this mintage would suggest. Gems are very elusive and highly prized for the two-year-only type coin status. Collectable varieties include a distinctly repunched date and one obverse on which the arrowheads are very faint. This was likely the result of die erosion followed by a subsequent repolishing effort that diminished such shallow features.Read More
