Introduction of Coins
Though clearly overshadowed by its Carson City cousin, the 1874-S dime is very scarce across all grades. The Mint State population is lower than the certified grading figures suggest. Most seen are somewhat poorly struck, and the example illustrated is sharper than usual. Two die pairs were employed. The reverse having the Micro S introduced this year is the scarcer of the two. The majority seen bear the Small, Thin S used in earlier years.Read More
