Introduction of Coins
This major variety with its mintmark above the bow is noticeably more scarce than the below bow 1875 S dimes, yet this fact is not reflected in most price guides. The mintmark used is that found on some half dollars of this period, but its use in 1875 was unique for the dime series. 1875 S above bow dimes are rare in Mint State, and such coins typically show worn and cracked dies with poor strikes. The example illustrated also reveals deep die-clashing lines on its reverse. Top 100 variety F-101 displays a shattered reverse having a retained cud at 6 o'clock.Read More
