Introduction of Coins
Despite its high mintage the 1876 S dime is common only in the lower grades. XF and higher examples are moderately scarce, with Mint State gems being quite elusive. The majority of 1876 S dimes carry the old, Type 1 Reverse, but Type 2 coins are not significantly more rare. Two different mintmark styles may be found for both types, but these are so similar that collectors have taken little note of them. The most popular variety features a repunched date obverse paired with a Type 1 reverse (F-101).Read More
