Introduction of Coins
Relatively common for a San Francisco Mint dime of the period, 1890 S is available in most circulated grades but becomes moderately scarce at or near Mint State. Gems are rare. This issue is very rich in mintmark varieties. As with 1889 S, both Small and Medium mintmarks were used, and the distinction between these is obvious. The Small S variety is the scarcer of the two. The Medium over Small S variety long listed in guides does not exist for this date. Also known is a misplaced date obverse die.Read More
