ONE DIME
Introduction of Coins
As both the final year and highest mintage of its type, the 1891(P) dime is very common in all grades, including gems. It is the quintessential type coin for dimes with the Legend Obverse. Researcher Gerry Fortin has identified 35 die marriages, and more may yet be discovered. Some discrimination will be needed in selecting a desirable example, as this date is also quite subject to weakness at Liberty's head and the bow knot, as seen on the coin illustrated. With so many dies used, it's not surprising that numerous misplaced or repunched date varieties have been found. Also popular is an obverse die showing clear doubling.Read More
