Introduction of Coins
The New Orleans Mint was reactivated in 1879 primarily to assist with the huge volume of silver dollar coinage. It was not called upon to strike fractional silver until 1891, and this became the sole O-Mint entry in the Legend Obverse type beyond the rare 1860 O dime. This issue is common across most grades, a consequence of its high mintage. Only at the gem level does it become scarce. Dozens of die marriages have been recorded, and many of these include repunched dates and/or mintmarks.Read More
