ONE DIME
Introduction of Coins
1891 S dimes are plentiful in circulated grades and only slightly scarce in Mint State. Gems are somewhat elusive. Weakness at Liberty's head is a probably for many survivors, with slight weakness at the bow knot also being found to some degree. The two mintmark styles found for 1889-90 S dimes were repeated with this date, but the 1891 S dime is only slightly more scarce with the Small S than the Medium S. Several minor varieties are known, and the only one to attract much collector attention is that having a Medium S clearly punched over a Small S. The high visibility of both mintmarks is what makes this variety so appealing.Read More
