Introduction of Coins
The minting of dimes at Philadelphia nearly doubled that of 1848's total, and this issue is plentiful across all but the highest grades. As with most dimes of this period gems are elusive. Also difficult to find are pieces grading XF or AU, as the softness of strike seen on this issue can make even a lightly worn coin seem to be no better than VF. There is one variety for 1849 that was described as an overdate in the past, but this is now attributed as a repunched date.Read More
