Introduction of Coins
The Large Date variety of the 1856 dime bears a date logotype that conforms to those used in the several years preceding. Walter Breen speculated that this variety was exclusive to the March 3 delivery of 150,000 dimes, but this is impossible to prove. It is certainly more scarce than the Small Date variety and carries a modest premium across all grades. Mint State survivors are rare, with gems being all but unknown.Read More
