Despite a generous mintage, it seems that the attrition rate for 1856 O dimes was very high. Examples are slightly scarce across all grades, and ones grading XF and higher are very scarce. A fair number of Mint State pieces have survived, including a smattering of gems. Three die marriages are known having the Medium O reverse leftover from earlier years.
